Tale #39 – Schism

In February of 2019, the United Methodist Church called for a special general conference. Among the things they talked about was the place of LGBTQ individuals within clergy and the life of the church. A lot of people had a lot of opinions, and after days of discussion, the vote was cast. I think we need to talk about it. Not the decision, not whether or not the call was appropriate or accurate to biblical revelation. We need to talk about the reactions folks had to it – and how we need to take quick to listen and slow to speak to heart.

  1. As gay man who has only recently come to Christianity, I applaud this gentle and ernest approach.
On a very different note, there’s a book I highly recommend for anyone on either side of lgtbq/Christian arguments: Torn by Junstin Lee, it takes what I feel is an equally ernest approach to the subject and gives a far better voice to the view of the matter from a gay believer’s eyes.
    God Bless you Mike.

  2. Thinking before speaking is always wise. Bravo. You are loved and valued. Signed, a member of the United Methodist Church and in the center of this mess.
