It is so easy to hide who we are when we want to. Some times that hiding looks like the image of quiet isolation often conjured up by the concept, but others it is loud, raucous, and smiling. We hide for safety, for security, and the fear of the loss of each. When we lean into that fear with people, though, in order to fight through it – we find what real relationship looks like. It can be hard, messy, and – yes – terrifying, but it’s also beautiful. When that relationship is with the God who sees us completely and knows us more intimately than we understand ourselves – there can be a safety and beauty the likes of which we never thought possible even in the midst of fear.
This tale is brought to you by my friend and inductee to the 2nd class of the wandering bards guild, Hector Miray. You can find more from Hector at FaithandFandom.com, where you can see a lot of the work he’s been doing crafting geeky, pop-culture devotionals. You can also hear him on The Pull List Podcast talking about faith and comic books, and you can support all of that work at his Patreon.
