Tavern Con Update!

UPDATE:
A couple people have been asking about entry fees. I want to be clear that there is NO COST FOR ENTERING THE EVENT. There will be an entry for the Pretense “Last Role Standing” competition (see below), but you can come and play the games in our collection for free. While there is no cost required to get in, we will be accepting donations of all kinds. The rest of this post will talk about the prizes you can win and the competition. However, if you want to support the ministry but don’t want to worry about the competitions or keeping track of tickets:

Donations:
This is our first fundraising event for the ministry, so every bit helps. Your donations help us put on more events, add games to the library, and connect with churches and community groups. We will be accepting any and all donations at the door. For your convenience, we will be able to take donations in cash, check, or credit card. We have tried very hard to keep the costs for this event down to a minimum, so the vast majority of every dollar we collect goes directly into growing the ministry.

Thanks. We now return you to your regularly scheduled update post:

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Two weeks from now we’ll be opening the doors for our first Tavern Con! As such, I thought it appropriate to give you all some updates on the proceedings, the prizes, and the possibilities of an amazing Saturday spent gaming! Before I break down how the prices will break down and other assorted details, let me give you a couple interesting bits of information that have come to light since the first post:

-Wayward travelers!

We have high hopes for this event in the future, which is where the “Con” in Tavern Con comes from. We have big hopes for an annual gaming event open to all – but we always thought this first one would be a humble effort that only a few local people would come to. While we hardly have thousands of people breaking down the doors, a number of people have RSVP’d to the event and many of them are saying they will be traveling over an hour and a half away to get to us. We’re excited to meet everyone!

-Designer on Site!

Jason Tagmire will be at the event with his games as well as some unpublished games to play test

I announced on twitter that we’ll be having a competition of Pretense – a game by Jason Tagmire. Well, apparently Mr. Tagmire SAW that tweet and realized he doesn’t live that far from where the event will be held. I have confirmed that Jason will be at the event. He’ll be bringing a number of his games with him that you can buy direct from the designer – and he has also asked if people would be willing to play test as of yet unpublished games! Event attendees will be able to be part of the design process as you play and give feedback to these titles.

-All the Prizes!

When we announced the event, we mentioned that there would be prizes you could win through various raffles and contests. Well, let me tell you about some of them!

The Pretense Last-Person-Standing competition winner will receive a copy of Pretense signed by the designer, as well as another game he designed (Maximum Throwdown)

The raffle prizes currently include:
Specter Ops
Dancing Eggs
Batman Love Letter
Arboretum
Sylvion
D&D Temple of Elemental Evil
-TWO copies of both the Ministry Initiative RPG and the Ministry Protocol short story colleciton signed by Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine.
Doomtown: Reloaded and the Faith & Fear expansion

Excited yet? Let me give a few more details to fill in some of the blanks left in the initial announcement.

How will the Pretense competition work?

pretensePretense is called a “social metagame” on its packaging, and rightfully so. It is a game that is being played all the time, even when playing other games at the event. The game will open after the first hour of the event to allow for a decent number of players to arrive. A donation of $5 will get you a role card and get you into the game. Each role card has a specific scenario. Some examples would be “If you are the only person cleaning up a game, you may take another player’s role card.” Another example says “If another player takes a picture of you, you can take their role card.” You also have the option of attempting to guess another player’s role. If you guess correctly, you can collect that player’s revealed card for a point. If you guess wrong, you are out of the game and the player you accused takes on your unrevealed role card.

If at any time all the role cards have been distributed and only one player remains – that player will win. At 6:30pm, if no clear winner has been determined – we will go by whichever player still in the game has the most points (based on the game’s rules, each role card taken from another player counts as 1 point). In the unlikely scenario that there is a tie, the winner will be selected randomly from the remaining competitors.

Some questions you may want to ask:
-If I get eliminated from the game, can I play again? YES, as long as there are cards available. Another $5 donation will be required to obtain a new role card and rejoin the game.
What if there is a question on whether or not the action on a role card happened? I will be the judge in the event of any issues.
-If I arrive later in the day, can I still play? YES, as long as there are cards available. Because this is a last-person-standing style competition, it would be possible to participate if you arrive late. However, there will be no guarantees that there will still be role cards available as the day goes on.
How can I identify another player’s potential role if I don’t know the game? We will have a list of the Pretense roles available at strategic places throughout the room.

As mentioned when discussing the prize pool for the day – the prize for winning the Pretense metagame competition will be copies of Pretense and Maximum Throwdown signed by the games’ designer – Jason Tagmire.

The Raffle

With so many great prizes and so many options for the best ways to run a raffle-type give-away, we tried to come up with the best way to make sure participants have the best chance to win prizes they enjoy. It will be a $2 donation per ticket, or a $5 donation for 3. There will be a basket in front of each prize, and you simply place your ticket(s) in the basket for the prizes you hope to win. The more tickets you put in, the higher your chances to be selected. Raffle drawings will be picked at 6:30pm, and you must be present when your ticket is called to claim your prize. If you are not there to claim your prize, we will simply draw another ticket from the basket until a winner claims it.

Church & community leaders

We especially want to connect with you! If you are on staff at a church, run a small group, or actively are trying to bring people together in your local community and you would like to receive more information about us – we will have both a signup for our monthly newsletter as well as a brochure listing some of the ministry’s activities and how you can help. If you would like us to come to your church or create a similar event near you, please be sure to send your emails to contact@innroadsministries.com

We are very excited about this event and hope to see as many of you as can make it. Remember, if you need details on the time and location of the event, you can find all that at our original event announcement page.
