Tavern Con 2016 is just days away, so I wanted to put up a quick post highlighting some of the details of the event. Some people planning on attending the event have asked us for information to help them plan on how much to bring with them and what they can expect. Here is a breakdown to answer that request:
How Much to Bring?
While we do stress that this event is FREE to get in and game with us, it’s also our primary way to raise support for the work we do all year long. As such, you will be able to donate to InnRoads Ministries via cash, checks, or credit cards. There will also be a number of things that will be available for purchase.
—InnRoads Swag:
While people continue to ask us if we have items like shirts, dice bags, etc, we have not been able to make that happen yet. Hopefully some of the funds from this event will be providing a chance for more of those things to be available. However, we DO have small items like stickers, magnets, and buttons
- Stickers: Available for $1 a piece. These stickers are business card sized in two designs. The logo for our podcast (Game Store Prophets) and our “God & Gamers” design based on the D&D Red Box
- Magnet: Currently our only magnet option is the same as the “God & Gamers” sticker. The magnet will be available for $1.50 each
- Buttons: Buttons will be available at $1 a piece, $1.75 for two, and $3 for a full set of 4. We have the following designs.
- The GSP d20 logo
- The InnRoads Ministries sign logo
- The InnRoads Plays logo
- Dwarf Bards Rock!
—Raffle Tickets:
We have a number of donated games you can potentially win this year from some fantastic gaming designers/publishers as well as from our Regulars community. You can find a list of them here.
The way the raffle works is that you can get any number of tickets you’d like at a donation of $2 per ticket (3 tickets for $5). To make sure that your tickets only go towards items you KNOW you want to win, you’ll be able to put your tickets specifically towards specific items. In cases where there are multiple copies of the same title, your ticket will be put towards the drawing for each of them (though to ensure everybody can enjoy the titles, if your name is drawn twice we will draw another ticket.)
The raffle prizes will be pulled at 6:30 pm. You CAN win if you have to leave the event early, though be sure that your contact information is filled out on the back of your ticket. Depending on the weight of the item, covering shipping costs MAY be required. You will be contacted if this is necessary.
—Baked Goods:
We will provide a good amount of food to make sure you aren’t hungry during the 10 hour event. If you would like to donate to help us cover the cost of that food, it is appreciated but not required. There WILL however be a mixture of store bought and home made special treats and baked goods that will be available for purchase. The amount you will get with each purchase depends on the item in question, but everything item should roughly go for $1 or $2 a piece. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, plan accordingly.
—The Pretense Meta-Tournament:
If you participated in Tavern Con last year, you already know about this event brought to you courtesy of Jason Tagmire and the folks at Button Shy Games. Pretense is a game played while playing other games. The tournament will officially start at 11am and will be going to 6pm.
For a buy in of $5, you’ll receive your role card. Each role has a special action you are trying to get other players to do. For instance, the Glutton has you trying to get other players to pass you food, while the Maid can collect a card from another player if they are the only one cleaning up after a game is over. A sheet with all roles will be posted throughout the event.
If all other roles have been successfully eliminated from the tournament, the last person standing will win. If there are still multiple competitors left in the event at the close of the event, the remaining player who has collected the most role cards from OTHER players will win the collection of Button Shy Games.
There may need to be official rulings on whether or not an action occurred to trigger an elimination. In that case, an InnRoads Ministries representative will give the final ruling. Even if you are not there for the beginning of the event, you CAN enter late if you wish provided there are role cards still available. If you find yourself eliminated early in the day and would like to re-enter the contest with a new role, you can obtain a new one (again, as long as there are still roles available), for an additional $5 buy in.
Other Opportunities
—Support our Guests:
While this is an InnRoads Ministries fund raiser, we have guests that will be attending that will be traveling a good distance to teach games and tell you about how they use games to positively impact others. The Bodhana group will have information and items for their own organization. While we cannot break down what they’ll have available or the costs, we hope you’ll interact with them and thank them for coming out.
—Sign up for info/announcmenets:
We are not in the business of spamming people. However, we want to make sure you have access to information about us, our events, and the mission of InnRoads. As such, we’ll have sign up lists to help you get the information you want and only the information you want.
- Info packet request:
if you are a leader of a church, small group, or community organization and would like to receive a copy of our info packet we send to interested organizations, sign up with your contact information and we’ll get one in the mail to you as early as next week. - Event Emails / Meetup.com signup:
Local gamer trying to find a gaming event near you? Want to be up to speed on our travels? Interested in hearing about when we unveil the upcoming InnRoads Ministries meetup group? You’ll have a chance to sign up with your email to be contacted with future events details, and if you choose, we’ll let you know when our Meetup.com group goes live.
We hope that you’ll come out and play with us. Whether you can make it to the whole event or are only able to stop in for a few hours, the doors will be open from 10am to 8pm, and we’ll be happy to play together and bring people together.
If you can’t make it, you can watch the event happening if you follow us on Instagram, periscope, or twitter or search for the #TavernCon2016 hashtag.
